Summer is quickly approaching, so we’re making the most of the final month of spring. This month, Sydney boasts a wide variety of community events with great causes – such as Remembrance Day commemorative ceremonies, active outdoor charity fundraisers, and family-friendly Christmas concerts! No matter your interests, or your budget, there’s a November activity waiting for you.

There are three events taking place as part of the Pittwater Paddle in 2018:

  • The ORIGINAL Pittwater Paddle: an 8.4km paddling event for elite or recreational paddlers
  • The Pittwater FAMILY Paddle: A shorter 3.6km paddling event for families and less experienced paddlers
  • The NEW Pittwater Sprint: A 1km sprint for elite and experienced paddlers.

Even if you’re not much of a paddler, there will be plenty of food and entertainment for everyone to enjoy. By registering for this event, you will be helping the NBI support children living with disabilities.

Remembrance Day

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we take time to remember those who have died or suffered during war and armed conflict. Remembrance Day this year is especially significant, as Sunday 11th November 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I. All members of the community are welcome to attend this commemorative ceremony at Manly War Memorial, commencing at 10:45am.

Bastille Festival Sydney

Sydney’s annual Bastille-inspired celebration of food, wine and art is back for another year! This four day celebration will unite people in the spirit of Bastille Day. This years event will not only take over Circular Quay, but expand into The Rocks as well. Attendees can expect fire twirlers, magicians, opera singers and salsa dancers in a lineup that includes live concerts, cabaret and street performances and DJ sets. But the entertainment isn’t the only thing to look forward to, a delicious assortment of specialty food, beer and wine will keep you well fed with energy levels high so you can keep watching and exploring. If previous years are anything to go by, Bastille Festival will be an epic showcase of food, wine and art.

The Rocks

Can’t wait to start celebrating or just dying to experience a wintery Christmas? Head down to The Rocks this July for their French-inspired Christmas in July markets, set to run alongside the Bastille Festival. The Christmas spirit will take over the streets of The Rocks and twelve wooden chalets will be shipped in from France to make it feel as authentic as possible. These little shacks will be set up with vendors serving up mulled wine and an array of amazing Christmas pop up shops. The markets open at 11am each day but it’s when the sun goes down that the magic starts. Get lost in The Rocks and let them transport you to France’s most famous winter markets.

Transparent igloos have popped up at Pier One and one of them has it’s very own hot tub! It will be positioned on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and its beams will reach all around the Harbour.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert – The Musical 

Starting on May 15th until mid July, this blockbuster musical is coming back to town with more glitter than ever for its 10th anniversary celebration tour! A Farmers and Produce market in Warriewood, Sydney. Come and buy the freshest produce and food. Products include local honey, local and imported specialty cheeses, fish, meat, olive oils, bread, plants and flowers… the list goes on and on.

You can bring your dog with you but not into the market area, there is a ‘Dog Parking Area’ where there is water and limited shade available. Easy Parking and Wheel Chair Accessible.

Carriageworks Farmers Market

This weekend market (opens 8:00AM) is well-worth the trip for its range of seasonal produce, including organic and bio-dynamic foods from farmers and producers from across New South Wales. The markets are curated by Aussie chef Mike McEnearney, formerly of Kitchen by Mike.

Look out for superstar chef Kylie Kwong there every week behind the steamers at the Billy Kwong stand… her plump and fluffy pork buns all drizzled with chilli are a must.

For all you art lovers, visit the Manly Art Gallery and Museum to view Martine Emdur’s beautiful paintings of the fluidity of human nature. Be engrossed in Emdur’s unique application of light and shadow with each brush stroke.

While this one may not be the romantic Valentine’s Day date you were looking for, it’s for a good cause and will be lots of fun if you dare to bare! Cupid’s Undie Run is a 1.5km run to raise money for the Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia and yep you guessed it, you run in your undies! Now of course not everyone is willing to run in nothing but their undies so you are encouraged to dress up in anything you find comfortable but still stand out in the crowd. Think tutus, superhero costumes and fairy wings. So grab your partner or a bunch of your single friends and dress up… or down!
